FRUITFULNESS HAS NO AGE LIMIT
Rev'd Dr. Bayo Sola Aremu
Psalm 92:12-14
” The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD,they will flourish in the courts of our God.They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green”
The focus of today’s devotion is to establish the fact that old age is not a barrier to fruitfulness. Naturally and scientifically, old age is a period of decline. It is a time in a man’s life when the law of diminishing returns sets in. Old age is seen as a period of time when one’s ability, potential and capacity for fruitfulness drop to almost zero level. It is a time when a man’s strength begins to fail him. At old age, eyes become dim, hands become weak, knees become feeble and generally, the body system becomes more and more inactive and less functional. Hence, the possibility of fruitfulness at this stage is very low and too slow.
However, contrary to this common opinion and natural inclination, today’s text establishes the fact that old age is not a barrier to fruitfulness. According to this text, the righteous will grow, flourish and still bear fruits in old age. They will stay fresh and green. The word ‘still’ as used in verse 14 is an adverb modifying the verb ‘bear’ and used as a function word to indicate the continuance of an action or condition;something happening or existing before now and continuing in the present.
According to today’s text, fruitfulness is not a function of age but a function of location. Like a tree, where a man is planted is highly significant to his continual fruitfulness. While the last lesson placed emphasis on being planted by the streams of water, today’s text emphasizes on being planted in the house of the Lord. The ability to flourish and continue to bear fruit in old age depends on whether a man is planted in the house of the Lord or not. In other words, the ability to flourish and still bear fruit in old age is the exclusive right of only those who are planted in the house of the Lord. To be planted in the house of the Lord is to be planted in Christ and remain in Him as Jesus Himself teaches in John 15:4-6.
Beloved of God,are you scared because age is no longer on your side? Have you lost hope because you are growing old and the expected fruits are not coming forth? Don’t panic,be encouraged. The word of the Lord for you today is that you will still bear fruits. Age is never a barrier to fruitfulness. It is not a barrier to marriage neither a barrier to childbearing. Are you aged but not married yet?Don’t lose hope, you can still locate your God given suitor, you will still get married and very soon for that matter. Are you married and aged yet with no fruit of womb? This is good news for you. Remember the story of Abraham and Sarah. God enabled the manhood and the womb to bring forth a child even at old age. That same God is still alive, yours is not difficult for Him.Trust in God and be deeply rooted in Him.You will still bear fruit.
Prophetic Prayer I pray for you today: 1. May you never be uprooted from the house of the Lord in Jesus name. 2. The Lord will turn your weakness to strength 3. He will give you enablement for fruitfulness. 4. You will bear fruits even in your old age. 5. It is your time to flourish,it is your time to bear fruits.
So shall it be in Jesus name. Amen.
Enjoy your weekend.
CHRIST IS THE ANSWER!
