PASTORAL BLESSING (2)

Numbers 6:22-26,

”The LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

The emphasis of the last lesson was on the significance of pastoral blessing. Like the priests of old, ministers of God are called to bless people and not to curse. They are to declare and pronounce blessing in accordance with the Word of God. At the same time, people must learn to humble themselves and submit to authority in order to benefit from priestly blessing.

Further biblical insight reveals that every believer in Christ Jesus is a priest. The book of 1Peters2:5 confirms that “you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” This implies that every believer is a priest saddled with the responsibility of offering spiritual sacrifices to God through Jesus. This idea is further explained in verse 9 of the same book when Peter said that “….you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

The implication here is that there was a sense of belonging to the covenant of priestly blessing. As believers in Christ Jesus and as priests of the Most High God,we,like the priests of old, are also called to bless others. We have been given an incredible responsibility and commission. As we receive, we are called to give. In doing so, we will not only become participants in the gospel of Jesus Christ, we shall become active agents administering the blessings of God’s love to the world. Thus, our utterances, declarations and pronouncements become the moment of God’s grace in the lives of other people. Our utterances have the power and the capacity to either bless or curse people, build others up or tear them down. Our choice of words often has more power than we realize. Believers’ tongues should be anointed and full of grace to bless others.

Beloved of God,as a believer in Christ, you are called to bless others. Stop cursing and stop abusing people. Speak grace, speak peace and speak comfort into peoples’ lives. Henceforth, let no evil, corrupt and negative pronouncement proceed out of your tongue. Always remember that you are a priest.

Prophetic Prayer

I pray for you today :

1. May your tongue be anointed with grace and power in the name of Jesus.

2. The oil of priesthood upon your head shall not dry

3. The Lord will bless you with a sanctified tongue

4. He will make you a source of blessing to nations

5. You are an embodiment of blessing

So shall it be in Jesus name. Amen.

Have a blessed day.
